Dedicated to the memory of Louise

This page is a tribute to Louise Jane Watts (nee Rider).

Louise’s journey with cancer ended peacefully as she passed away on 3rd October at Hospiscare’s Exeter Hospice.  Louise told each of her three children how much she loved them, and then fell asleep with her husband by her side.

Even as a child, Louise was determined to be a teacher.  Her true vocation was to guide her pupils, especially those with lower ability or who had had a tricky start in life, to achieve more than they ever believed they could.  Past pupils fondly remember her ability to manage challenging classrooms, calmly and quietly, by treating the children with respect.

Louise was a positive, active and sporty person; at her happiest by the sea or in the outdoors.  She inspired each of her children to play hockey, the game that she loved, and was so proud to see both her boys qualify for the Devon Hockey squad.

Louise tackled her severe allergies and then cancer in the same way she lived her life: cheerfully and actively; and was always keen to minimise the impact on those around her.

She was a loving wife, nurturing mother, caring daughter and kind, thoughtful friend, who will be deeply missed by those that knew her.  Louise has been promoted to glory to join her dear grandparents in heaven.

But He’s already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.

It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbour,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,

And don’t take yourself too seriously - take God seriously.
Micah 6:8 (Message Version)

No flowers please, but if you'd like to make a donation it would be wonderful if you'd support Anaphylaxis UK (the charity that supports people with severe allergies: Louise spoke in the Houses of Parliament on their behalf), Hospiscare (who fund the wonderful Exeter Hospice that supported us so kindly in Louise's final days), and/or Force (the Exeter charity that supported our family especially as Louise went through her first cancer diagnosis and treatment).

Thoughts

My best Uni friend. Oh we knew how to have a good laugh. You from deepest darkest South and me from Northern Lancashire. We initially had trouble communicating, I couldn’t understated how your managed to fit an ‘r into ‘castle’ or ‘bath’ but we figured it out. We just became friends and developed fond memories to last forever. Moments to cherish. We didn’t keep in touch after our Wedding. Life got in the way, jobs got important and children arrived. I thought about you often, especially around your birthday as memories of your 21st birthday at your home came to mind. But I just know what an amazing wife, teacher and mother you were and I know you will be missed dearly. Thinking of you and your family. I hope the photos bring joy as they did for me.

My dear daughter we were together from your birth moment. Your mother was shouting, I was choking as she was hanging from my tie! Suddenly you were there, gurgling, and I cried and cried because of you. I am still crying; I am a big baby. But as we come to terms gently with the new reality, I will look after your little ones, and stand with James, who loves you so much. Dad xx
